This Gedeb Asasa site has roughly 700 local farmers who bring their coffee here for drying and hand- sorting. The farms are little more than large 'gardens' adjacent to homes, growing heirloom varietals native to the region. Farmers deliver their coffee as whole cherry to the station where it is graded, and then laid out on drying beds. Competition in the region for cherry is quite strong so farmers are paid well, especially for ripe cherry selection. - Coffee Shrub

Gedeb Asasa is an incredible example of how far smallholder coffee production and distribution has come in recent years.  The idea that a farmer can take his or her crop, no bigger than the size of a typical suburban backyard, and have it processed and shipped to consumers across the world is almost mind-blowing, and it is one of the facets of the industry that makes it so wonderfully deep and rewarding to study.  The Gedeb cup is equally rewarding, featuring a play between berries, dried fruits, cocoa, and floral, honeyed citrus, lacking the bite of typical citric acidity.  - Boomtown
