Kerinci coffee thrives in the rich volcanic soil of the highest active volcano in Southeast Asia, Mt. Kerinci (3,805 m). Kerinci Seblat National Park is the largest national park on Sumatra and one of the largest protected areas in all of Southeast Asia. It includes 5,325 square miles of rainforest, volcanos, moun- tains, wetlands, and rivers. In the world of specialty coffee, Sumatran beans distinguish themselves from their peers for their unique processing method called “wet hulling.”  This process causes the bean to leave the farm with a much higher moisture content than normal, and is known to impart some funkier flavors to the beans.  While this Sumatra isn’t quite rolling in funk, it does compliment its nutty chocolate base with malty, cereal-like sweetness and a touch of earthy herbs and flora.  -Boomtown
